Leupold Pro Shooters Dominate National Rifle League’s 2023 Grand Slam Championship
September 11, 2023

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Leupold & Stevens, Inc., provider of the world’s most rugged, lightweight, and clear sport optics, is pleased to announce that its Pro Shooters dominated the competition at the National Rifle League’s (NRL) 2023 Grand Slam Championship, held August 25-27 in Laramie, Wyo.

Team member Matt Alwine won overall and the Open Heavy division, while Jon Pynch won the Open Light division and Bennie Cooley won the Factory division. Pynch also took home the event’s coveted ‘Rusty Ulmer’ and ‘Mountain Forged’ honors, while fellow team member Michael Lilly rounded out the trophy case by finishing third in the Factory division.

The invitation-only match was the NRL Hunter circuit’s season championship and challenged shooters with a course that was designed to mimic the pressure of a hunt. Targets were 1-4 minutes in size at their respective ranges, with a maximum distance of 1,000 yards.

Each of Leupold’s victorious pro shooters swears by the award-winning Mark 5HD riflescope.

“We’re out here shooting against some of the very best competitors in the world,” Alwine said. “There’s no room for error, and there’s absolutely no room for ‘just OK’ glass. You need optics that can be trusted to deliver performance, time and again–which is why the Mark 5HD is all I’ll shoot.”

The Mark 5HD redefines accuracy, precision, and optical performance for long-range shooters. Pick one up and you’ll feel the difference: it’s up to 20 ounces lighter than other scopes in its class. Get behind one and you’ll see the difference, from its superior edge-to-edge clarity to its extreme low-light performance. With three revolutions of elevation adjustment, the Mark 5HD was made to max out the performance of the latest long-range rifles and ammunition. It features Leupold’s Professional-Grade Optical System, which offers unmatched light transmission that’s designed to outperform in the most challenging lighting conditions, industry-leading glare reduction for a clear image in harsh, direct light, and the resolution and clarity that professional guides and shooters demand in the field.

Alwine, Pynch, Cooley, and Lilly all use Leupold’s PR2-MIL reticle. The PR2 reticle was developed with input from the country’s top competitors and professional shooters. PR2 reticles are specifically designed for long range speed and precision. Two styles are available: the PR2-MIL and the PR2-MOA. They are available in Leupold’s Mark 5HD line, in both a 5-25x and 7-35x configuration. Designed to excel in competition, the PR2-MIL reticle puts the best possible long-range competition reticle in the best long-range competition riflescope on the market.

“Each match I go to, I get more questions about the PR2-MIL reticle,” said John Snodgrass, Tactical Product Line Manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “The guys that are winning, and winning consistently, are using it, and there’s no secret to why. We designed the PR2 reticle to reduce clutter, simplify your shooting process and, simply, improve anyone’s long-range shooting performance.”
