Welcome back to another edition of The Hunting Wire! Spring turkey season is warming up across the United States, and I’m excited. I have the honor and privilege of introducing my girlfriend, a Kansas native, to turkey hunting in Virginia. She has already gone on two upland bird hunts with me earlier this year, and she had a great time hunting with industry friends Ken Perrotte and his dog, Jamison, and Mark Oliva, from NSSF. Now, we’re focused on turkeys! We are excited. She’s learning all about turkeys, how they think, what they sound like, and how to find them. It’s an excellent way for me to get to know her better, and by helping teach her, I am learning a great deal about turkeys myself. How many of you are learning how to turkey hunt this season? Or better yet, how many of you are teaching someone new how to hunt turkey? While wild turkey season seems to take most of the spotlight in the Spring, black bear hunting is one of my favorite things to do. It looks like I’ll head north to Maine to hunt black bears later this summer. As our country begins to break out from the COVID-19 pandemic, I hope you are finding new and creative ways to explore the outdoors and hunting with friends and family. As always, thank you for your support and feedback about The Hunting Wire, Jay Pinsky jay@theoutdoorwire.com
