Each month The Hunting Wire highlights one of America’s state-run wildlife management agencies to enhance the ongoing education and awareness campaigns of each state. The United States bases its hunting and conservation programs on what is known as the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. While often geographically unique, all state programs align with the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation, and offer news, information, and resources which can benefit American hunters.

Idaho: Idaho Fish and Game's mission is to protect, preserve, perpetuate and manage Idaho's wildlife resources

  • RECRUITMENT, RETENTION AND REACTIVATION (R3): One of the best things Idaho does for new and experienced hunters is their “Hunt Planner” system which helps hunters plan their next adventure step-by-step. Learn more about their program here.

  • CONSERVATION & EDUCATION: Idaho is one of the few states in America which has both Grizzly bears and Black bears. Black bear hunters must be especially observant during their hunts to ensure they don’t mistake a Grizzly bear for a Black bear.
