NSSF is funding a lawsuit against Virginia challenging HB 217 and SB 749, which ban the sale and transfer of commonly-owned firearms protected by the U.S. and Virginia constitutions. The complaint, filed by Erick Black, Britton Condon, Clark's Gun Shop, Inc., Optimus Arms, LLC, and Hexmag USA, LLC, argues the laws violate Second Amendment protections for firearms in common use.
The NSSF commends Indiana Gov. Mike Braun for signing Senate Enrolled Act 176, which prohibits local governments from using zoning regulations to prevent firearm retailers and shooting ranges from operating in commercially-zoned areas. The NSSF praised Utah Governor Spencer Cox for signing House Bill 214, which amends civil liability laws to protect firearm and ammunition industry businesses from frivolous lawsuits. Utah became the first state to pass the NSSF's state liability reform language, blocking attempts by gun control advocates to circumvent the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.
The Indiana Court of Appeals unanimously ended the City of Gary's 26-year-old lawsuit against firearm manufacturers. NSSF praised the decision upholding House Bill 1235, which reserves to Indiana the exclusive authority to sue firearm industry members, with NSSF Senior Vice President Lawrence G. Keane commending Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita's defense of the law.
