The unchecked wolf population has killed tens of thousands of elk and decimated the outdoor industry in many Western states. Canadian gray wolves were put on the Endangered Species List decades ago, and Fish & Wildlife recognized in 2009 that restoration goals had been achieved and they delisted the wolves. Thirteen animal rights groups immediately filed lawsuits and Judge Donald Molloy overturned the agency's decision in August 2010, putting wolves back on the Endangered Species list.
