2010-07-28

NEW YORK, N.Y. - VERSUS' new series Goin' Country with Kristy Lee Cook, produced by Orion Multimedia, LLC., mixes the best of the outdoors with the struggles of making it big on the country music scene. Beginning on Sunday, August 1, at 9 a.m. ET, host Kristy Lee Cook takes viewers on amazing hunts throughout the U.S. as she works to secure a record deal in the ultra competitive music business.

In 2009, VERSUS, the most-watched sports cable network in the country for outdoor programming, recorded its best year ever with 42 million viewers tuning in throughout the year; a 24-percent increase over 2008 (34 million). The momentum has continued into 2010 and VERSUS is looking to further build upon the growth by launching new and noteworthy original series, such as Goin' Country, in the outdoor category.

The eight-episode series, which will air each Sunday at 9 a.m. ET through September 19, will feature special guests such as American Idol finalist Blake Lewis, Grammy-Award nominated artist Jake Owen and country music star Aaron Tippin. Goin' Country will visit locations in Wisconsin and Illinois for Cook's first black buck hunt, Kansas and Wyoming for an exciting pheasant hunt, Texas for the majestic whitetail deer and Missouri and Tennessee for a difficult turkey hunt. The show will also highlight Cook's work with the 'Kristy Lee Horse Heaven Foundation', a charity for rescuing horses.

Cook gained fame as a finalist on the seventh season of American Idol in 2008 and in September of that year released her album Why Wait which produced the single "15 Minutes of Shame", a top 30 hit on Billboard's country charts.

VERSUS, the fastest growing sports cable network in the country, prides itself on super-serving passionate sports fans across all platforms (VERSUS.com, VERSUS on Demand and VERSUS HD). Now in more than 75 million homes, the network is the cable television home of the National Hockey League (NHL), IZOD IndyCar Series, Tour de France, World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) and Professional Bull Riders (PBR). VERSUS also airs NASCAR, NBA, UFC, college football and college basketball programming. The network is home to the best outdoor programming on television and airs original programs not available anywhere else, including The Daily Line and Sports Soup. VERSUS, a wholly owned company of Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA, CMCSK), is distributed via cable systems and satellite operators throughout the United States.
