Backcountry Hunting Podcast

Noted outdoor writer Joseph von Benedikt has started a podcast with the goal of inspiring more people to try backcountry hunting, to inform and assist those already addicted to it, and to entertain any and all hunters who might listen. The podcast was launched on 12 March 2019 and has since garnered over 12,000 unique downloads. Joseph hosts the show in an episode format with guests and sometimes without. He says he was inspired to do the podcast because he really likes the retro-like method of transferring information and entertainment. Plus, with the in-depth aspect, he can really dive into why certain methods of elk calling work on pressured bulls, or why aerodynamic bullets hit harder at long range than traditional flat-based, lead-tipped bullets, and so forth.

Candidly, Joseph says it’s a way of flipping up my kilt at the modern, 45-second social media promo video—enabling much more honesty, detail, and accuracy. Joseph says he does own a kilt and is of Scottish ancestry. (I have to wonder if he’s taking a shot at my 60 Seconds or Less video series. And I must add, I’m also of Scots-Irish decent, have never owned or worn a kilt, and never will.)

The attached video is an example of the kind of commentary you’ll hear on the Backcountry Hunting Podcast. If that’s something that interests you, I suggest you give it a listen. Joseph is a knowledgeable hunter and gun guy, and I doubt you’ll be able to listen and not learn something of value. Check it out here: http://backcountryhunting.libsyn.com/website
