300 Savage

The 300 Savage was introduced in 1920 for the Savage Model 99 lever-action rifle. It became a very popular big game cartridge and was the forerunner of the 308 Winchester. I took a 300 Savage to Africa last year and I had no trouble killing everything from warthogs to red hartebeest. Federal, Remington, Hornady, and Double Tap, all offer factory loads for it, and it’s the kind of gun I’ll have and shoot until I die, because it won’t kick me into my coffin and I’ve never had to track anything I’ve shot with it. If you want one you’ll have to look for something used or call Savage (https://www.savagearms.com/customer-support) and have them build you a brand new one just like they built for me.
