NWTF Recognizes Partners for Funding Wildlife Work

2007-04-05

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — For the past 22 years, the National Wild Turkey Federation has spent more than $230 million conserving 11.3 million acres of wildlife habitat and preserving our hunting heritage.

Much of that work wouldn’t have been possible without support from the NWTF’s many corporate partners.

During the NWTF’s 31st annual National Convention and Sport Show, the Federation’s staff recognized six members of the NWTF’s Energy for Wildlife program for the companies’ dedication to promoting sound wildlife management and the hunting tradition.

During the convention, NWTF staff recognized the following companies for achieving new membership levels with the NWTF:

Quarter Million Dollar Sponsor

    • Duke Energy

Centurion Sponsor ($100,000+)

    • CNX Land Resources

Patron Sponsor ($25,000+)

    • Marathon Oil

Silver Sponsor ($5,000+)

    • CNX Gas

Bronze Sponsor ($2,000+)

    • Progressive Solutions, LLC

"Over the years, the folks at these companies have really stepped up and demonstrated a strong commitment to improving wildlife habitat and securing the future of hunting," said Jay Jordan, NWTF’s Energy for Wildlife coordinator. "Not only do they work on managing their properties for wildlife habitat, they also support our organization -- and that’s how we’re able to get projects done on the ground."

The utility and chemical companies honored for their efforts are long time supporters of the NWTF’s conservation initiatives and other programs. Over the years, these companies led the way by sponsoring numerous regional habitat programs and habitat improvement grants throughout North America. They have also provided assistance to the NWTF’s JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge Ethics and Sportsmanship) program, Women in the Outdoors, Wheelin’ Sportsmen and the NWTF’s National Conventions.

Energy for Wildlife is a membership-based certification program for all energy companies and associated industries. The program’s primary goal is to enhance wildlife habitat on company-managed, -owned or -influenced lands. These lands often include power line and gas rights of ways, plant sites, forestlands or other properties.

NWTF’s Energy for Wildlife program staff works directly with energy companies to integrate wildlife management activities into their land management programs. When participating companies have implemented the wildlife component of their management plans, they become certified members of the program.
