NWTF Announces 2007 Board of Directors and Officers

2007-03-21

EDGEFIELD, S.C. - A major part of the success story of the National Wild Turkey Federation is due to the devotion of its volunteers, corporate partners and government wildlife agencies. Without their allegiance, the return of the wild turkey might never have happened.

To continue guiding the Federation’s pursuit to safeguard a tradition it considers sacred — our hunting heritage and the wise stewardship of our natural resources — are the 2007 Board of Directors. Each board member works closely with headquarters staff as the voice of the general membership, which now stands at more than 545,000.

The NWTF welcomes back a board member for the new term: Marvin Hartley of Jacksonville, Fla.

“I’m pleased to be back on the board,” said Hartley, who previously served for six years. “I look forward to participating in the planning and strategy of the future of the organization.”

Hartley has been a member of the NWTF for more than 25 years and is a Diamond Life member. During his two terms as director he attended 100 percent of the board meetings, including the Building Committee during significant expansion of the NWTF headquarters’ facilities.

Hartley also served on the Florida Board of Directors, as Jacksonville chapter president and banquet chairman for several years. He was the first district director for north Florida. Along with his wife and daughter, he organized the first Women in the Outdoors event in the state.

“We welcome Marvin back to the Board and look forward to working with him,” said Rob Keck, CEO of the NWTF. “His experience and leadership will help our mission of the conservation of the wild turkey and the preservation of the hunting tradition.”

Board members who were re-elected are: Dr. Robert Dettmer, Ironton, Mo.; Jim Hinkle, Mountain View, Ark.; Sam Mars III, Harrogate, Tenn.; Bill Torhorst, Oregon, Wis.; Louis Yount, Hartsville, S.C.
